Testing is Just a Learning Opportunity
For the last 6 months or so I've been sticking my nose into my son's syllabus for both English and Math - trying to understand how he's tracking towards his next NAPLAN test. In my opinion, the teaching syllabus for maths is well developed and plods them along towards more challenging levels. You could train a monkey to teach mathematics - so long as they follow the syllabus. English is what is doing my mind in. I can't see how the English syllabus takes him from where he was at grade 3 to where the NAPLAN wants them to be at grade 5. Sample NAPLAN tests I've seen call for serious maturity and the ability to deal with material from a wide range of sources. It's anywhere from National Geographic to Thomas Hardy - and that's prompting me to get more involved. Can I ask, how many of you get involved in your child's school work, and look at it as an opportunity to develop their intellectual needs?
