Young William in Front of our old Fire Engine Red Post Box |
This was William just under 2 years in front of our fire engine red post box. A year or so after this photo was taken, this very post box would play an interesting role in his early development.
At the end of violin practice, I took it upon myself to start working him out. We'd do knee strikes, situps, pushups, then race outside and climb this post box. Again and again he'd pump himself up, building up overall muscle strength and endurance. At the end of that first year, he could do 100 pushups - yes, that's one hundred pushups with good technique, without stopping.
Bullet Proofing your child isn't solely about fitness, but I like to think discipline and a never-say-die attitude is a good start to developing a decent level of tenacity. What I do believe however, is that whatever we do, we have got to ensure our children are first tempered with good emotional health and a positive outlook.
But don't get me wrong, our job is to temper them.
